In this example we are going to pretend to be a sales rep from Smartlead, which is a cold email automation platform. Let's pretend that we're selling to a company that makes financial tracking software for banks.
Subject line: pipeline velocity
Hi John,
Is ACME Inc. having a hard time booking demos with banking and credit union VP's lately?
Smartlead works with fintech clients to help them solve pipeline velocity challenges. We helped the marketing team at Banksoft to increase their pipeline velocity by 36% in less than 3 months with our automated cold outreach platform.

This template works for a number of reasons, but the main reason is that it's focused. The seller understands the prospect, their market, and their challenges.
The message is short and straight to the point. We prefer to speak about outcomes instead of pitching the features of your product or service.
The message is relevant to prospect. We're speaking to problems that they are likely experiencing right now.
We build our message around a KPI that the prospect tracks. Every sales leader tracks pipeline velocity. They look at this data in their CRM regularly. This is always a topic of conversation with the rest of the company's leadership.
The email subject line is short and direct. The prospect has to open the email to see the pitch. Try lowercase subject lines to boost your open rates.
Email pros argue about the best calls to action for cold outreach. We think asking for meetings makes the most sense, even though it's sometimes harder to convert.
We've seen cold emailers try softer asks, like feedback or a simple question that's easy to answer. This will help you get engagement, but you probably need a meeting to do a deal anyways. We think it makes sense to focus on what you ultimately want to achieve.

For this email example we are going to pretend that we work for Olipop, which is a reduced sugar sparkling soda brand. We will pretend that we're selling to a natural food store.
Subject line: samples for ACME Convenience
Hello Mary,
Olipop makes a delicious healthy prebiotic soda, and I wanted to talk to ACME Convenience to see if we can find a way to work together. Mind if I send you some samples to test out?
Olipop makes a low sugar soda, which is unique because it's only 50 calories with 5 grams of sugar. Customers love how great it tastes, and we have a combined social following of over 1,000,000.
We launched into a store in New York City and they able to sell through a whole pallet in under two weeks. We would conservatively expect you to turn over a standard order in about 30 days.
Let me know if we can connect.
Thanks!

This email template works well because it's full of value for the prospect.
Consumer product companies sometimes try selling just by pitching product features, but this strategy falls short. The retailer is your customer, but they are not really buying your product.
Retailers are buying your product's ability to turn over and make them money. Retail buyers want to stock products that their customers will buy. The features matter, but the social proof is more important. You need to show them that what you're selling is a money maker for them.
We also believe that consumer products companies should be offering samples to buyers to start a conversation. One of the perks of being a buyer is that you get to try new things. This is a great way to start a dialogue with them.
This email has a high focus on social proof. We always want to share relevant success stories that give the prospect confidence they are buying the right thing.

In this example we are pretending to be a firm that targets niche vertical market software businesses.
Subject: PE acquisition discussion with Dentaltech5000
Hi Elizabeth,
I am with ACME Global Capital. We are a strategic investor and acquirer of vertical market software businesses, and we are very interested in dental practice management tools at the moment.
We are looking to find companies with a robust solution for dental record management, steady growth, and a PLG growth model. Dentaltech5000 appears to have an interesting profile because of your user-friendly UI, integrations, and commitment to partnering with other dental software tools.
Our team has done 5 deals to date in the dental software space, and have retained 100% of the employees from our acquisitions.
I’d like to learn more if you are open to a conversation. Would you be open to a conversation to see if it could be a fit?
Best,
Bob
Hacked BD generally doesn't like to be emphatic when writing PE cold email copy. Most of our clients in this space prefer a more formal writing style.
This email is effective because it's specific about what we're looking for. Our copy shows we've done extensive work to include this company in our list. We have done the work upfront to make sure this company is a good fit. We strongly recommend this approach.
We use social proof in this email to build trust with the prospect. We show the prospect out commitment to taking care of their staff and business post acquisition.
The subject line is more direct and states what we are looking for. We typically don't recommend this, but private equity campaigns are different. You can let the prospect know you want to have a discussion about acquiring their business upfront. You will get higher quality responses.

In this example we are pretending to be targeting a marketing agency business.
Hi John,
I help business owners in the SEO marketing space sell their companies, and there is a lot of interest in businesses with fortune 500 clients right now. We recently took a SEO marketing services company to market and were able to get them a full cash offer for their business in less than two months.
Would you consider selling ACME Marketing INC.? I’d be happy to do a quick valuation to give you a sense of what it could be worth.
Thanks,
Bob
Personalization is one of the things that makes this email copy work. We are highlighting specific attributes of the company that we're reaching out to, which shows that we've done some research.
The proof point is another key component of this email. It always makes sense to include social proof in your messaging if you have a good case study.
We also offer a complementary business valuation for the prospect. They might not know what their business is worth, and it can always help to offer something like this to engage a new prospect.
We hope that these cold email templates with email examples were helpful for you. Hacked BD specializes in M&A, software, and consumer products. We provided templates for industries we know best.
